The pursuit of happiness

Dya Singh has attempted to explore, within his background life philosophy, Sikhism, for pointers in self-improvement, progress in life and the pursuit of happiness.

He has steered away from proselytization or even promoting Sikhism as the best 'way of life', least of all - religion. He has merely pointed out the self-improvement techniques available in this life philosophy leading to holistic happiness for everyone.

His 'peers' in this subject of self-improvement and the pursuit of happiness are modern day luminaries like Dale Carnegie, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Anthony Robbins, Eckhart Tolle and Steven Covey to name a few.

"My oldest brother Pr. Gurmukh Singh gave me 'How to win friends and influence people' by Dale Carnegie, when he went overseas from my country of birth Malaysia, in 1960. I was ten years old. Since then, that topic including the pursuit of self-improvement, progress in life and genuine happiness became a lifetime pursuit. While reading all the great authors mentioned above, and others on these topics, I was also getting schooled in my birth life-philosophy Sikhism. A great many of the pointers in these books, and even more, also seemed to pop-up in our Sikh scriptures and 'guru' - the Guru Granth Sahib' and related 'Sikh' literature, but they were never fully explained as techniques to improve one's 'happiness'. They took on a more religious and pious bent. That is why I refer to Sikhism as the 'best kept secret of this planet'. I believe this book will make Sikhs and non-Sikhs, perhaps look upon Sikhism as a tool for self-improvement more than just some set rituals and procedures and actions, to appease the 'Guru' and God, or to attain that elusive salvation which other 'religions' talk about. I believe Sikhism says that you are saved! Amen! Hallelujah! Allahu Akbar! Kalyan! Now what are you going to do with the rest of your life?"

Time out for self in terms of simple mindful meditation, visualisation, self-affirmation and self-discipline play a prominent role in his book.

Of Indian ancestry, born in Malaysia and a 'world music' exponent of spiritual music and song, but having lived most of his adult life in the 'west', he has drawn from the best of both worlds - the east and the west, to write a simple-to-read narrative of improving oneself, and hints for success and true happiness in this life.

Each chapter comes with a simple exercise for self-improvement and happiness. This book is for anyone and everyone.
